• Updated: Kimball International building damaged by fire after minivan strikes trailer (duboiscountyfreepress.com) — A fire at Kimball International’s HRJ Lane warehouse in Jasper heavily damaged part of the building and destroyed a minivan and trailer after a crash sparked flames Friday afternoon. Jasper firefighters, with backup requested from Huntingburg, contained the blaze and evacuated employees, with no reported injuries at the scene. Police later linked an injured person found at Sternberg’s 24 and More to the crash but have released few details.

• Jasper Council members announce opposition to Mid-States Corridor as poll information released (duboiscountyfreepress.com) — Jasper council leaders have come out against the proposed Mid-States Corridor after a new poll showed strong Dubois County opposition and resistance to using local tax dollars for the project. Officials warn the highway could shift costly U.S. 231 maintenance to Jasper and neighboring communities. They’re urging state decision-makers to heed the data and residents’ concerns before moving forward.
• William Michael Ackerman, 79, Jasper (duboiscountyfreepress.com) — Jasper is mourning William “Bill” Ackerman, 79, a longtime resident, National Guard veteran, and former leader of the Jasper Area Coin Club who also volunteered at the Dubois County Museum. He shared local history through bicentennial articles and was known for his love of gardening and homemade blackberry pies, leaving behind his wife, daughters, and sister in Jasper.
