Full Steam Ahead: Trail Corridor Secured for Hawpatch Project - LaGrange Standard and News (lagrangenewsonline.com) — LaGrange County has officially purchased 114 acres of former railroad corridor, clearing the way for the 17‑mile Hawpatch Trail that will run through communities like Topeka and Wolcottville. Backed by county grants and a major Lilly Endowment award, the first phases will create a safer, scenic route for local cyclists, Amish commuters, and visitors while boosting quality of life across LaGrange County.
   

2. Mt. Zion Lutheran Church to Host American Red Cross Blood Drive - LaGrange Standard and News (lagrangenewsonline.com) — A community blood drive is coming to Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in LaGrange on Thursday, December 18, with appointments available from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents can schedule a time online, by phone, or via the Red Cross app to help bolster critically needed blood supplies during the holiday season. Your donation could directly support patients across the country.

Local communities receive Community Crossings grants (fwbusiness.com) — LaGrange and LaGrange County are set to receive major road funding boosts, with $952,800 for the town and $1 million for the county through Indiana’s Community Crossings Matching Grant program. The state awarded $100 million total to 191 communities, supporting local road and bridge improvements that officials say will enhance safety, attract jobs, and improve quality of life across Indiana.
   

4. The Greatest Gift This December: A Shelter Pet Who Needs You - LaGrange Standard and News (lagrangenewsonline.com) — Ark Animal Rescue & Adoption is urging LaGrange County residents to make pet adoption their most meaningful gift this December, as hundreds of local animals enter the shelter each year. The group offers flexible, by-appointment adoptions any day and time this month, helping families meet pets in need while easing overcrowding and supporting a community-powered rescue effort.
   

5. 3 more Indiana duck flocks lost to avian influenza (wattagnet.com) — Highly pathogenic avian influenza has been confirmed in commercial duck flocks in Elkhart, LaGrange, and Noble counties, including 4,500 ducks lost in LaGrange County. The outbreak contributes to about 8.6 million poultry lost statewide this year, heavily impacting Indiana’s duck operations and raising concerns for local farmers and processors.
