• Food, beverage tax approved as parks funding solution (westernwaynenews.com) — Richmond’s Common Council has approved a new 1% food and beverage tax that will be added to restaurant and similar prepared-food purchases starting in 2026, with all revenue dedicated to improving city parks, trails and the Whitewater Gorge. City leaders say the tax, expected to raise up to $1.5 million annually, will tackle long-deferred park maintenance, while some residents remain concerned about higher dining costs and oversight of spending.
   

• From Ancient Origins to Local Award-Winning Team (avonecho.com) — A central Indiana jump rope team with roots reaching back to 1989 is now coached in part by Jessica Nicholson, who first learned the sport with Richmond’s own Thump Jumpers team. Her Avon Aerial Orioles recently brought home 25 awards from the 2025 national championships, and the coaches hope more committed jumpers will follow in her Richmond-inspired footsteps to future national competitions.
