Boys & Girls Clubs of La Porte County Hosted Summer Camp Opening Event
Boys & Girls Clubs of La Porte County Held an Opening ceremony, Club tours and summer camp celebration

Boys & Girls Clubs of La Porte County (BGCLPC) kicked off its highly anticipated free summer camp programming with an opening ceremony on Wednesday, June 12. The event was open to summer Club families and the community and included Club tours, treats and a brief presentation. The opening ceremony marked the official commencement of a summer filled with enriching activities and experiences for youth in the community.
The first official day of camp was Thursday, June 13 for BGCLPC’s Michigan City location and Thursday, June 20 for its La Porte location. In total, more than 400 campers will engage in activities, free meals and snacks, arts and crafts, physical activity programming and BGCLPC’s innovative Stepped-Up STEM program. Generously funded by the Howmet Aerospace Foundation, this locally developed initiative enables Club members to delve into science, technology, engineering and math concepts through hands-on projects and experiments. Units such as Epic Egg Drop, Slime Science, Animal Habitats and Volcanoes aim to ignite curiosity and foster a passion for STEM topics among participants.
Having served almost 150 kids in 2022 and a staggering 350 last summer, BGCLPC is gearing up for its biggest and best summer yet, with an expected 400+ campers at two Club locations in Michigan City and La Porte.
