Ames Firefighters Extinguish Fire in ISU Metals Lab

A fire reported in US Department of Energy Lab on Iowa State University Campus Friday morning, took out power to two buildings for an hour.

The fire reported this morning at the U.S. Department of Energy labs on campus has been extinguished, a release from the reported.

Ames Firefighters were called to the fire about 8 a.m. Friday. The fire was contained in an electrical switch gear room on the second floor of the Metals Development building, causing the building to loose power.

The building was evacuated without injury.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire quickly. No other research space was affected.

The fire knocked out power to neighboring Spedding Hall for about an hour.

People were allowed to go back to work in Spedding and people who work in Metal Development were allowed to go back inside to grab their belongings and secure their offices.
