Ames Man Reports Attack, Boone Man Charged
A Boone man faces a felony charge after allegedly attacking a man who asked him about a domestic abuse charge.

A 29-year-old Boone man was charged with willful injury, a Class D felony, after allegedly attacking a man who asked him about a domestic abuse charge, Ames Police said.
Jason Weigel, reportedly assaulted another man at Idaho Avenue early July 29, complaints stated. When Ames police arrived at the Idaho Avenue home, they found a man with a bloody nose and cuts to his face who said that Weigel became upset and starting hitting and kicking him in the face when he was asked about a domestic abuse charge, complaints stated.
Police then went to Weigel's girlfriend's home where they could hear a man talking on the phone. Through the door police heard a man saying, “Tell him I'm sorry for knocking his … out that bad,” complaints stated.

Police also saw blood on the wall near the stairs, complaints stated. When police knocked on the door the woman denied Weigel being there, but police eventually discovered him hiding in a bedroom, complaints stated. Weigel wouldn't talk to police about the alleged assault. He was charged with willful injury a Class D felony and violation of a no contact order. Willful injury is a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison and up to a $7,500 fine. Weigel was being held at the Story County Jail Friday on a $20,000 bond.
