Ames Police Charge 5 With OWI Over July 4

Ames Police Department released the results of its enhanced traffic enforcement from July 4 to July 7.

The Ames Police Department charged 5 people with operating while intoxicated from July 4 to July 7 as part of an enhanced traffic enforcement.

Three drivers were charged as a second offense and police issued eight people citations for failing to wear a seat belt. Seatbelt warning tickets were also issued to six other people, a press release from the department said.

The department conducted this and similar traffic enforcements using grant funds from the Iowa Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau.
