Ames School Board Approves Hiring 2 New Principals

Mitchell and Sawyer elementary schools will see two new principals in the building this week. The hiring of Justin Jeffs of Texas and Susan Lawler has been approved.

Justin Jeffs and Susan Lawler have been hired to fill principal vacancies at two Ames elementary schools after an extensive selection process.

The Ames School Board approved their hiring at a meeting Monday.

More than 20 people applied for the positions and nine finalists were interviewed.

Jeffs is coming from Texas to become the principal at and Lawler comes from the neighboring Ankeny school district to become the principal at .

Jeffs' salary is $84,197 and Lawler's is $84,910.

Jeffs previously served as an assistant elementary principal in Katy, Texas and Lawler had been previously serving as an elementary instructional coach for Ankeny Community Schools.

Jeffs will start working Friday and Lawler plans to begin Wednesday.
