From City of Ames:
Deadline Extended for Homebuyer Program
AMES, Iowa – The deadline for submitting applications for the City of Ames’ Homebuyer Assistance Program has been extended to Friday, July 20. This program is being funded through the use of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) dollars. The City of Ames Housing Division will be allocating grants and low-interest loans to first-time homebuyers who meet household income restrictions and program requirements.
The Homebuyer Assistance Program includes approximately $2,500 in grants for closing costs and prepaid expenses, and up to $13,500 towards down payment expenses, repayable at 2 percent interest over 12 years to purchase homes within the city limits of Ames. Program applicants will also be required to attend a homebuyer educational seminar.
“Many first-time homebuyers are very close to home ownership, but fall short on paying for closing costs or saving the entire down payment. This program will bridge that gap and makes home ownership a reality,” said Vanessa Baker-Latimer, City of Ames Housing Coordinator. “We are extending the deadline to allow more citizens to take advantage of the great opportunity to purchase a home in Ames.”
Applications are available online at www.cityofames.org/housing. For more information, contact Baker-Latimer, Ames Housing Coordinator, at (515) 239-5400 or by e-mail atvbakerlatimer@city.ames.ia.us.
