CONCORDIA BAND TOUR INCLUDES AN AMES CONCERT

The nationally recognized Concordia Band from Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., announces its annual domestic tour Feb. 12-19. They will perform a joint concert with the Ames High School Symphonic Band at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, in the Ames High School Performing Arts Center, 1921 Ames High Dr., Ames, Iowa. The concert is open to the public and a freewill offering will be accepted. The concert is sponsored by the Ames High School Instrumental Music Department. For more information call (515) 817-0600.

            Each winter The Concordia Band tours regionally in the United States. The 2012 tour includes performances in Lindstrom, Minn.; Walworth and Kenosha, Wis.; Forest City and Ames, Iowa; and Sioux Falls, S.D.

            In addition to the annual domestic tour, The Concordia Band tours internationally every four years. The destination for the May 2012 international tour is China, with performances in Hong Kong, Zhuhai, Shenzhen and Chongqing. The band also plans on doing extensive touring in the Beijing area.

            The Concordia Band is a select group of 77 outstanding student musicians, each of whom studies privately with members of Concordia’s acclaimed music faculty. Membership represents a broad range of majors and disciplines from across campus. The ensemble has performed at state and national conventions for the Minnesota Music Educators Association, MENC: The National Association for Music Education, College Band Directors National Association, and the Western International Band Clinic.

            Dr. Scott A. Jones became the eighth conductor of The Concordia Band in 2005. Before joining the Concordia College faculty, Jones served as director of bands at Apple Valley (Minn.) High School.
