Human Relations Commission Vacancy

PRESS RELEASE


AMES, Iowa – Ames Mayor Ann Campbell is seeking a volunteer to fill an open position on the Human Relations Commission. The volunteer would fill the remainder of a term that will expire on April 1, 2015, and would be eligible to be reappointed for another three-year term. 

Human Relations Commission members are appointed by the Mayor for the purpose of promoting good will among various racial, religious, and ethnic groups and to minimize discriminatory practices. The commission submits an annual report to council, investigates discrimination complaints, conduct educational activities, and sponsors community events.   

The Human Relations Commission meetings are generally held at 5:30 p.m. the fourth Thursday of each month in City Hall.  Applications are available in the City Clerk’s Office, on the second floor of City Hall, 515 Clark Ave.  Also, applications are available online atwww.cityofames.org.  The application is under the “Our Government” drop down menu. Look for “City Clerk” followed by “Boards and Commissions.” 

The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. Wednesday, August 1.
