A spinoff startup company based on U.S. Department of Energy's Ames Laboratory technology has won a national energy innovation competition.
On Friday, the DOE announced that Iowa Powder Atomization Technologies was one of three winners of the America's Next Top Energy Innovator competition.
Iowa Powder Atomization Technologies cofounders, Joel Rieken and Andy Heidloff, are both native Iowans, who graduated with bachelors and doctorate degrees from ISU.
Their "day job" is as postdoctoral researchers at the Ames Laboratory.
