Story County Veterans Affairs Collecting Items for Veterans Home

Brett D. McLain, Story County Veterans Affairs Director announced that Story County will be collecting donations for the Iowa Veterans Home.

The collection site is the Story County Treasures Office at 900 6^th Street in Nevada.

The items needed are printed below:

Canteen books for indigent residents

Christmas Gifts for every resident

Donations for the Recreation Fund used for admittance to things like movies, bowling alleys and sporting events; phone cards, postage stamps and greeting cards, plants, birthday gifts, bingo prizes and popcorn.

Alarm Clocks – electric, battery or wind-up Women’s bath sets

Billfolds – Men’s & Women’s Cologne for women; aftershave for men

Watches – Men’s & Women’s Insulated hot-beverage travel cups

BINGO PRIZE IDEAS: (NEW ITEMS ONLY)

Soda pop (both regular & sugar-free)

Candy bars

Individually wrapped snack items (“Little Debbie” snacks, cracker packs, etc.)

Sample sized toiletries (hand cream, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, etc.)

ADDITIONAL NEEDS: (NEW ITEMS ONLY)

Toiletry items (alcohol-free mouthwash, razors, shaving cream, electric pre-shave, shampoo, lotion)

CLOTHING DONATIONS: All sizes of men’s and women’s, but in particular need of XL-XXL sizes

for both men and women. Women’s plus-size knee-hi hosiery. Men’s baseball caps.

NOT needed at this time: playing cards, books, combs, toothpaste or toothbrushes.
