Story Medical Foundation’s “Some Like It Hot Pink” Gala Raises More Than 20,000.

NEVADA --- Story County Medical Center Endowment Foundation announced that the Oct. 29^th “Some Like It Hot PINK!” gala raised $20,950.

The biennial gala, fundraising dinner and auction featured a Roaring 20’s theme with live dueling pianos.

Mary Maxwell, breast cancer survivor and Story Medical patient, served as honorary chairperson of the event. Funds raised at the “Some Like It Hot PINK!” gala will be used for the growth and sustainability of women's health services within the Story Medical system.

“When I was asked to be the honorary chair for this year’s gala, I must admit I was hesitant to say yes. After attending and telling “my story,” I was glad I did. Although I’m a seven-year cancer survivor, it is still difficult for me to talk about it. But telling my story that night made me feel really special – it truly was a memorable evening for me and my family,” said honorary chair Mary Maxwell. “The Roaring 20’s theme was a great idea, and the dueling piano’s were awesome. I definitely feel a good time was had by all. What a great way to raise money for women’s health!”

Silent auction items included many unique pieces such as autographed memorabilia, original artwork, gift baskets, and technology items, including an iPad. On the live auction were coveted items including lunch with Iowa State University Women’s Basketball coach Bill Fennelly, a snowblower, trips, and a pedal ambulance modeled after the Story Medical ambulance. The silent and live auctions brought in a combined $15,000.

“I have done several events of this type for other organizations, but this was my first with Story Medical,” said Melissa Miller, Story Medical Foundation Director. “I was blown away by the generosity of our friends and donors. Everyone had a great time supporting the medical center.”

Story Medical Administrator Todd Willert announced in his gala address that it was his goal to have mammography services available for women in Story County in the very near future. In addition, funds will be used towards technology, recruitment and subsidization of women’s health services.
