Back to School Dates for Ames Community Schools

Students of Ames Community Schools will head back to school in less than a week on Aug. 23.

Here are some important dates for parents and students to remember from the .

Here are some important events and dates to help students and families get off to a good start:

Kindergarten through fifth grade New Student Orientation, 6- 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 16, for families of kindergarten students and elementary students new to Ames Schools. Families should attend orientation at the school their student(s) will attend. Please note, Meeker School is holding Kindergarten Orientation at 5:30 p.m. and New family Orientation at 6:30 p.m.

Middle School Open House, Noon – 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 16, Ames Middle School, 3915 Mortensen Rd.

Elementary Class lists posted, 9 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 16, at all elementary schools.

Freshman Orientation, 1 p.m., Monday, Aug. 20, at Ames High School, 1921 Ames High Dr.

High School Parent Meeting, 6 p.m., Tuesday Aug. 21 in Ames High Auditorium, 1921 Ames High Dr., offering parents general information to start the school year.

Elementary Glances, 3 – 4 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 22 – Optional opportunity for students in grades one through five at all elementary schools to visit their classrooms, meet their teachers, and drop off school supplies.

Ames High New Student Orientation, 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 22, at Ames High School, 1921 Ames High Dr.

First Day of School – Grades one through 12, Thursday, Aug. 23. Kindergarten Glimpses as scheduled.

Northwood Parent Orientation, Thursday, Aug. 23, at Northwood Preschool Center, 3012 Duff Ave, as scheduled.

Kindergarten Classes begin, Monday, Aug. 27

High School Back to School Night 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, Ames High, 1921 Ames High Dr. Parents follow their student(s)’ schedule beginning with first period. Please note, an information meeting for the Extended Learning Program and the Alternative Learning Program precedes Back to School Night at 5:45 p.m.

Kindergarten through fifth grade mini-conferences, 2 to 4 p.m., Aug. 27-31. Elementary schools dismiss at 1:45 p.m. each day to allow brief conferences for parents with teachers.

Sixth Grade Back to School Night, 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 30, Ames Middle School, 3915 Mortensen Rd. Meetings at 5:30 for Extended Learning Program, and 6 p.m. for band and orchestra.

Fifth Grade Band Parent Meeting, 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 30, Ames High Cafeteria Commons, 1921 Ames High Dr. For all fifth-grade students and parents interested in the band program.

Monday, Sept. 3 – Labor Day – No School

Seventh/Eighth Grade Back to School Night, 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 4, Ames Middle School 3915 Mortensen Rd. Meetings at 5:30 p.m. for Extended Learning Program, and 6 p.m. for band and orchestra.
