Jennett Heritage Area Dedication

Join Story County Conservation, the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, donors, and friends for the dedication of the Jennett Heritage Area, Story County Conservation's newest property.

The event is scheduled for  6:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Jennett Heritage Area (62321 280th Street) south of Nevada.

The 6:30 p.m. program will be followed by light refreshments. Visitors can chose to explore the area on their own or join staff for a guided tour to show the restoration work and future plans. The guided hike will take about an hour and may be up to two miles in length. Participants will be walking through tall prairie and on uneven ground, so we suggest tennis shoes or boots and long pants.  If you would like to try your hand at seed harvesting, please bring gloves and don't forget the bug repellent!

The Jennett Heritage Area is an impressive 171-acre property featuring 25 acres of remnant prairie, two ponds, and two streams. The property is now Story County's largest wildlife area and is open to public hunting. Please join us in celebrating the protection and restoration of this diverse area!

The event will be held rain or shine, visitors are encouraged to dress for the weather. The Jennett Heritage Area is accessed by travelling south of Nevada 3.75 miles on County Highway S-14, then .25 miles east on 280th Street
