First BCS Rankings Out: Iowa State Cyclones Rank No. 24

It appears as if playing a hard schedule has paid off for the Cyclones despite a close loss on Saturday.

The Iowa State Cyclones may have lost twice this year, but some losses are better than others.

After losing a well fought game Saturday to BCS No. 4 ranked Kansas State, 27-21, Iowa State is still considered one of the top 25 college football teams in the country by the bowl championship formula, which ranked the Cyclones at No. 24 in its first published rankings.

The Cyclones strength of schedule was aided in their initial ranking by the success of Texas Tech (ranked No. 17 by BCS), which has given them their only loss, along with quality wins at TCU and at Iowa.
