Man Charged in 8-year-old Sex Abuse Case
Ames Police Blotter from July 20 to July 23 includes charges against Juan Gomez-Cubillo.

A 42-year-old man was charged with sex abuse Sunday, finally moving an eight-year-old case forward.
In May of 2004, a 14-year-old girl had run away from a youth facility and stopped at La Fuente Restaurant where she encountered Juan Gomez-Cubillo, then 34, according to complaints.
They left together and the girl told police that she had been sexually assaulted. Police also interviewed Gomez-Cubillo, who said that he had been with the girl but denied the assault. He gave police a DNA sample which matched DNA found on the girl, complaints said.

Ames Police had filed charges on Gomez-Cubillo, in September 2004, but Gomez-Cubillo disappeared from the area and might have even left the country, said Ames Police CMDR. Jim Robinson.
Sunday police found Gomez-Cubillo on South Fifth Street, Robinson said. Gomez-Cubillo had lived in the South Meadows apartment complex July 15 and was trying to reclaim some of his possessions Sunday when police officers checked his I.D., he said.Â
