Man Falls From Ames Balcony

Ames Police are investigating the fall from the fifth-floor balcony on the south side of Legacy Apartments.

A man fell from an apartment balcony near Iowa State University campus after 1 a.m. Sunday.

Ames Police said they were called to Apartments at 119 Stanon Ave. about 1:30 a.m. because a man had fallen from a fifth-floor balcony on the south side of the building.

The man's identity is not being released at this time, pending notification of the family. Ames Police said the man was flown to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

"The last we knew he was being treated," Ames Police Sgt. Dan Walter said in response to an email at about 3:20 p.m. today.

A Mercy Hospital official said he could not provide the man's condition without a name.

Police continue to investigate the case.
