Officials to Discuss Possible Post Office Closures

Officials plan to hold a meeting on Wednesday to discuss possible post office closures in Ames.

Ames Tribune staff writer Laura Millsaps reports that the U.S. Postal Service will hold a public meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday on the second floor of the main post office, 525 Kellogg Ave.

Ames post office locations on Welch Avenue and in the Iowa State University Memorial Union were on a list released in July of 178 post offices in Iowa and 3,700 nationally being considered for closure, the Tribune reported.

Declining mail volume contributed to a $3.1 billion net loss during the third quarter of its fiscal year, the Tribune reported citing a budget update from the U.S. Postal Service.
