Summerfest Starts in Campustown Noon Saturday
Campustown's second annual Summerfest: a day of free activities, games and entertainment begins at noon Saturday along Welch Avenue.

College students are out of town and the Campustown crowd is pretty thin.
That makes it a perfect opportunity for the rest of Ames to come out and see what the commercial district, a block from campus, has to offer.
For the second year, Campustown Action Association will host Summerfest a day of free activities, entertainment and games. The only thing people need is some money in their pocket for food and beer.

Campustown Action Association Event Chair Anne Taylor said no one expects to make a lot of sales Saturday, business owners just hope people take the opportunity to come out and see what's there.

“It's not as busy and there's not as much stuff going on,” Taylor said. “It's a good time to come enjoy the area.”
The first Summerfest brought 500 to 600 people, but Taylor expects a much bigger crowd mainly because the Ames area bands lined up, such as Leslie and the LY's, come with their own crowds.
Other bands expected to perform are Holly Figeuora, Ramona and the Swimsuits, Pennyhawk, Ladysoal, Trouble Lights, and more.
About 33 Campustown Action Association businesses will host booths. ISU Judo club, Ames Area Astronomy Club and Story County Freedom Flight will also be in attendance. The Judo club will perform live demonstrations from 4 to 6 p.m.
has opened their lot for free parking. The day's events begin at noon about the same time as 's ribbon cutting.
