The Dark Knight Rises in Ames

Ten of Ames theaters will open between midnight Thursday and 1 a.m. Friday for the last of Christopher Nolan's Batman Trilogy “The Dark Knight Rises.”

With Batman on the run from Gothum for the past five or so years, the comic book city is falling fast to the criminal element said Rob Josephson, a fan of the trilogy and owner of.

Now Bane, an intelligent criminal mastermind, has assembled an army and plans on showing Gothum the “true path,” Josephson said adding that Catwoman shows up in the city as well. Unlike other interpretations Josephson said that Bane is portrayed a cunning villain.

“He is smart. He is a hunter and he knows how to defeat his enemy,” Josephson said.

The details are hush hush but Batman is expected to rise from the ashes and save the day, said Josephson who has been playing Batman movies at Mayhem all week to prepare for opening night.

Josephson also began handing out free Batman comic books and lapel pins starting Wednesday and expects to throughout the weekend so long as they last.

will tailgate in the Cinemark Movies 12 parking lot and grill out from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

“People are welcome to come out and talk about the movie," said Chris Pellack, of Old Curmudgeon.

The food is free.

As for the movie, Cinemark 12 staff expects to have plenty of tickets for sale. The film will be shown in 10 theaters. Anyone intent on getting the best place in line for their showing can get a wristband starting 10 a.m. Thursday. Tickets to the midnight showings have sold out, but a new showing starts about every five minutes up until 12:45 a.m.

Hyped or not Josephson said “Batman: The Dark Knight Rises” is set to be the hit of the summer and probably the prelude to a Justice League film inspired by the popularity of “Avengers,” the third highest grossing movie of all time.
