Cause of Citywide Power Outage Determined
City of Ames unsure how many people are without power.

A tree limb that touched a transmission line between the Stange Road substation and the Boone Junction substation caused a 10 minute black out in Ames.
Power was restored to the majority of the city within 10 minutes, but pockets of Ames went without power for as long as an hour.
By 4:15 p.m., the outage, which included both the Ames Power Plant and the power plant at Iowa State University, had been isolated to two feeder lines from a Dayton Avenue substation in east Ames in the industrial area of town.

Susan Gwiasda, City of Ames Public Relations officer, said she was unsure how many customers were currently without power. The city released a statement on the outage explaining how the fallen limb caused the blackout in greater detail.
Just after 4 p.m., Ames police officers were directing traffic at lights along University Boulevard closest to Iowa State University including Haber.

Officers were also at 13th Street and Stange Road.
Iowa State University's recreational services closed all facilities and the Parks Library is also closed until Wednesday.
