Weather Alert: Ames

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Ames and the entire state through 7 a.m. Saturday.

Heat index values could reach 105 degrees according to the most recent forecast. And there will be little relief through the night.

The combination of heat and humidity will increase the chances of heat exhaustion and heat related illnesses.

Here are some tips from the National Weather Service:

• Drink plenty of fluids.
• Stay in an air-conditioned room.
• Stay out of the sun.
• Check up on relatives and neighbors.

If staying indoors isn't an option take a break at  or shop in the air conditioned .
