What's Happening in Ames this Weekend?

Music, picnics, beep ball and a memorial gala are all part of the weekend.

The Ames on the Half Shell concert series ended last week but Bookends on the Bandshell, the and have some tunes for you. The World Series Beep Baseball continues through Saturday. And a special Memorial Gala will also be held for an ISU alumnus who died unexpectedly.

Tune into Main Street

Warm up for the weekend with Tune into Main Street from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at , with a performance by Keith McCaulley and Friends.

Ames Municipal Band Concert

Municipal Band Concert at Durham Bandshell at is free and lasts from 8 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Pre-concert entertainment starts at 7 p.m. Bring your blanket or a lawn chair.

Bookends on the Bandshell

Friday's bookend concert features Trigger Fish and Kick Like a Lion. It runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. On Sunday watch Trouble No More from 6 to 8 p.m.

Naturalist Lunch Box Program

Story County Conservation offers its hour long lunchbox nature program at McFarland Park from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Rock the Library

Ames on the Halfshell concerts are over for the summer but the Ames Public Library will fill the bandshell Friday with its free Rock the Library concert from 7 to 9 p.m.

Roosevelt Summer Sundays

The summer concert series held on the grounds of the former Roosevelt school at 1000 9th Street, features The Jason Danielson Quartet, a jazz group. The shows begin 7 p.m. on Sundays.

Live in the Vineyard Summer Concert Series

Burning Sensations plays at Prairie Moon Winery from 3 to 6 p.m. for its summer concert series. There is a cover charge of $3 that comes with a glass of sangria. Guests can bring a picnic spread but no other alcohol is allowed.

Musical Memorial Gala

A memorial gala featuring Simon Estes will be held 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at to honor an ISU graduate Joey Wilgenbusch. The concert, which will also include Iowa State University music faculty, students and alumni, is free but donations are requested. They will be used to establish a scholarship in Wilgenbusch's name. Wilgenbusch died in December from a heart attack caused by a birth defect.
