Ankeny Woman Wins $10,000 in Iowa Lottery

Erin Canfield won't have to worry so much after winning the prize.

An Ankeny woman, Erin Canfield, is a 'thousand-aire' after winning a $10,000 prize in an instant-scratch game, the Iowa Lottery announced Friday.

Canfield who has won lottery prizes before said her past winnings were usually a $1.

“Usually it’s $1 tickets here and it’s not a big deal,” she said. “This one was kind of a big deal.”

Canfield's son was a little more excited.

“He was screaming, ‘We’re millionaires!’” Canfield said. “And I said, ‘No, no honey. We’re thousand-aires.’”

The full-time Grand View University college student said she would use the funds to pay some bills.

Canfield won the price in an “Iron Man” lottery game in which players try to match numbers. She bought the winning ticket at Casey's 1602 W. First Street.
