Boston Marathon Explosion: 7 Ankeny Residents Participating
As many as 7 Ankeny residents were listed as Boston Marathon participants this year.

Seven Ankeny residents expected to participate in the Boston Marathon Monday when bombs exploded about 2 p.m. central time, killing three people and injuring more than 100 others.
People from Ankeny listed as participating in the Boston Marathon are Denise Carleton, 42, Katherine Flickinger, 29; Mark Hanson, 60; Cindy Harris, 40; Amy Justiniano, 41; Shane Mcmahon, 46; and Diane Nelson, 47.

Scores Injured by Explosion at Boston Marathon Finish Line
According to live results from the Boston Athletic Association all Ankeny residents had completed their run.

Two were killed by the blasts, but their identities are unknown. Three Cedar Falls residents who were also members of the Iowa State Running Club, had already returned to their hotel room, when the blasts occurred.

Family of Carleton said that Denise, who finished the marathon just six minutes before the blast is fine.Â
Flickinger told the Des Moines Register that she was two to three blocks away from the scene when she and her husband Ben heard the booms. She had completed the race and waiting for a massage.
