Clean Up Ankeny On Saturday By Dropping Off Appliances, Electronics And Tree Branches

If your fall cleanup includes getting rid of appliances, electronics or tree branches, Ankeny has a place for residents to take them Oct. 7.

ANKENY, IA. -- Ankeny residents can dispose of nonworking and unused appliances and electronics at the city’s final recycling day of the year from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 7. Items may be dropped off at Prairie Ridge Aquatic Center, 1220 N.W. Prairie Ridge Drive.

The city contracts with a vendor who collects the household appliances and electronics Ankeny residents are disposing, from cell phones to refrigerators.

There is no cost for most items, but a fee is charged for computer monitors and televisions, based on the size. Disposing of monitors and regular-sized TV’s will cost $15 and the fee for console and big-screen TV’s is $30.

Only trees and branches with a trunk size from 1 inch to 8 inches in diameter will be accepted. Larger debris will not fit in the city chipper. Residents are asked to have the cut end of the branches stacked at the end of their vehicles for easy removal.

Twigs, tree roots, stumps and yard waste will not be accepted. Also, vehicles larger than pickup trucks are not allowed.
