Congressman Steve King Close to Senate Decision; Says Republicans Don't Have to Rebrand the GOP

Iowa Congressman Steve King said he won his 4th District Election by talking about his conservative stance on same-sex marriage, immigration and abortion.

While some Republicans say they need to move to the middle on social issues to win elections, Iowa Congressman Steve King told supporters that he is living proof that conservatives can win, according to a blog on the Des Moines Register.

King said that's how he beat Christie Vilsack for the 4th District seat

Republicans who favor marriage equality have said that the GOP can consider themselves conservative and in favor of same-sex marriage because they shouldn't want the government telling them who to marry.

King said at a recent meeting of Republicans in Bettendorf that he is close to deciding whether he will run for U.S. Senate and thinks he can win, according to an article in the Waterloo Courier.

“Now, I can tell you that I can see a path to victory that I couldn’t see a week or a little more ago,” he told a roomful of Republicans at the Red Crow Grille in Bettendorf.

The congressman said a Republican would face a “slight uphill” climb to victory but it could be done. He added “the timing of a decision” is “close,” although he didn’t say when it might come.

What do you think? Do Republicans need to rebrand themselves to win?
