Council Prohibits Truck Stops and Gaming in Otter Creek Draft Plan

The only thing off the table for the future Otter Creek development east of the NE 36th Street I-35 Interchange are casinos/gaming sites and truck stops.

The Ankeny City Council sent a draft of the Otter Creek Planned Unit Development to the Plan and Zoning Commission at its last council meeting.

Council member voted unanimously to begin rezoning the property, according to an article in the Des Moines Register.

The city has been putting together a plan for development near the newest Interstate 35 interchange since 2009. The Ankeny City Council hopes the 265-acre site east of Interstate 35 and north of NE 36th Street would become a retail and entertainment destination and draw people from the Ames area and the metro, John Peterson, Ankeny Assistant City Manager told Ankeny Patch recently.

The city does not own any of the property, but some landowners in the area are interested in selling their land for development.
