Great Deals Offered In Ankeny Schools Online Auction

The occasional auction brings money to the Ankeny district by selling off equipment and furnishings no longer needed in schools and offices.

ANKENY, IA -- Old lunchroom tables and high school gym equipment are among the castoffs that the Ankeny school district has for sale as it cleans house of more than 100 items and offers them for bids in an online auction. The excess furniture, office equipment and more comes from schools, districts offices and maintenance areas. The auction closes at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The three-page online inventory of 116 items includes weight racks, weight plates, benches, storage cabinets, copiers, tables, chairs, rolling carts, pallet racking, a floor sweeper and storage cabinets and more. The district contracted with K-Bid, an online auction service, for the sale. Bids through the weekend ranged from $5 to $500 and a few items still had no takers.

The district formerly held “garage sale” type sales to get rid of its excess furnishings, but holding an online auction allows more people to see and study what is available, said Jeff Johnson, district purchasing agent. “The auctions have worked really well because they reach so many people,” he said. “Our taxpayers get true market value out of the stuff.”

All items are sold as-is and in the case of multiple like items -- such as several rolling tables formerly used in lunchrooms -- winning bidders will have their choice on a first-come, first-served basis. Personal inspections of the items is scheduled by appointment. Call Johnson at (515) 289-3980. To see the items or place a bid, go to the K-Bid website.

“Keep in mind, some items may differ slightly from the pictures in the auction,” the district notice of the auction states. “In some cases, pictures were copied and pasted to keep the process fluid and efficient.”
