Birthdate and Place

Dec 5, Des Moines, IA

Your job description:

Strand’s mission statement is:  Welcome to STRAND. We provide high-end fibers meticulously dyed to exacting standards resulting in extraordinary yarn!

What that means is that I import only the finest fibers (merino, silk, cashmere, alpaca, etc) and hand dye or hand paint each and every skein in very small batches using professional dyes.  These will be used by crafters for knitting, crocheting, weaving and other fiber arts!  I also accept custom orders where I work with the client to create a color and texture they love!

When and how did your business launch?

STRAND officially opened on April 13th, 2013 but has been a dream for a long time coming!  I try and have shop updates (restocking) every Monday when possible!  I'm hoping to be coming to a local yarn store near you soon!

Talents/Hobbies

Knitting and dying fiber!  I also love to cook!

What's the greatest advice you've been given?

“Once you get a reputation for rising at dawn, you can sleep until noon and no one will notice.”  Meaning, of course, to set your reputation solidly and early.  That way when you hit a hurdle (which we all do) people may be more willing to cut you some slack.

Dream Vacation?

Well, normally it would be Paris (and it probably still is) but after this seemingly endless winter we had I think I’d pick any place tropical with a beach and free drinks! (And maid service!)

Fantasy Dinner Guests

Ellen DeGeneres, Jon Stewart, Jesus, Coco Chanel, and Steve Carell  (that’d be one heckuva dinner party!)

If today was your last day on earth, I would ...

Invite over any loved one, family member or friend who would want to come, put on my sweats, order Felix & Oscar’s pizza and spend my last night surrounded with laughter and love.

Something your parents always told you

“No one ever said life was fair.”  Oh how I hated to hear it but how very, very true it is.

The last movie you saw

Wreck it Ralph.  Over and over and over and over…thanks to my kiddos.

If I could change one thing about the world today I would

It may sound Pollyanna, but I’d probably try and change the rush to judgment people tend to have now-a-days.  I think we’re quickly losing our ability to empathize.  I wish people would try and “walk a mile” a bit before making sweeping determinations about others or their actions.

The last book you read

“Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn

Least favorite chore

Putting clean clothes away!  I will wash them, dry them and fold them.  And then I will sit and stare at the pile of them forever because I cannot stand putting them away.
