Police: Man Assaults Woman, Bites Police Officer

A man convicted of domestic abuse in the past, struck and bit an Ankeny police officer responding to a domestic dispute call at an Ankeny apartment building recently, according to police.

Tyshay B. Morton, 35, was arrested on charges of domestic abuse assault, third offense, assault on a peace officer and interference with official acts on May 18, according to police.

Officers went to an apartment building to “intervene in a domestic situation” on May 18 and broke down the door when they heard a child screaming inside and no one would answer, police said.

Morton, who was inside the apartment, wouldn't cooperate with officers and a struggle ensued, according to police. During the struggle Morton struck an officer and bit one on the hand, police said.

Morton was charged, but had to be taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said. Officers suffered a bite mark, as well as scrapes and bruises.

The child was not injured, but a woman who had fled the apartment before officers arrived did have minor injuries, police said.

Austin Michael Coulter, 26, Allen Township, was charged with operating while intoxicated, first offense; at 2:15 a.m.

Eric Gail Boardman, 37, SE Wanda Drive, was charged with operating while intoxicated, first offense; public intoxication and reporting accidents at 9:22 p.m.

Tabitha Jolee Carmona, 25, Trilein Drive., was charged with disorderly conduct at 10:11 p.m.

May 27

Jenna Rae Gomm, 27, Wanda Drive, was charged with operating while intoxicated, first offense; at 12:05 a.m.

May 28

Dirk Sterling Barrett, 40, SE Bel-Aire Road, was charged with disorderly conduct at 10:54 a.m. Stacey Lynn Tapp, 41, SE Mallard Creek Drive, was charged with fifth-degree theft, shoplifting at 1:58 p.m.
