Weather Service Warns of Heat Index in the Triple Digits

Summer officially arrived in Ankeny less than a week ago. 

Yet it's about to feel like mid-August. The National Weather Service has announced a hazardous weather outlook for some parts of the state, as the heat index will rise to around 105 degrees Wednesday and Thursday.

The weather service is warning of "very hot conditions" those days, with a chance of thunderstorms Thursday night. It's too early to determine if that will bring severe weather with it.

Or if our grass will ever again be green this year.

The temps start to climb tomorrow, with a high Tuesday of 87 degrees. Wednesday will be a scorcher with a high of 97, only a couple degrees cooler on Thursday. Highs will hover at 90 through Sunday.

Be careful before plopping down on plastic patio furniture and don't take the dogs in the car with you on errands.

During these days, it's important to be safe and not to overexpose yourself to the heat.
