• Superintendent of the Year: Matt Degner, Iowa City Community School District (k12dive.com) — Families in Coralville are directly impacted by Superintendent Matt Degner’s leadership of the Iowa City Community School District, which serves Coralville alongside four neighboring communities. Degner has expanded full-day preschool, boosted enrollment amid new voucher competition, and grown career and college pathways. His community outreach and data transparency aim to build trust, especially around special education and postsecondary readiness. 
• Christmas cheer filled the Sharon Center United Methodist Church in Kalona on Sunday (thenews-ia.com) — Coralville worshippers were among many who packed Sharon Center United Methodist Church in Kalona for a long-running Acoustic Christmas program featuring bluegrass and traditional holiday music. Performers shared stories about Appalachian Christmas customs, the roots of their instruments, and the 30-year history of the show. Another similar concert is planned December 21 at the Ainsworth Opera House with cookies and refreshments afterward.
