2013 Iowa State Wrestling Results: Regina's Gaffey Wins State Title

Daniel Gaffey, an Iowa City Regina senior won the state wrestling title for 220 pounds in class 1A.

Gaffey defeated Ryley Howell, a junior from Wapello, in a 3-2 decision on Saturday evening in Des Moines.

Notes

Jake Marlin, Creston/Orient-Macksburg, Sr., was the 22nd wrestler to win four state titles with a pin at 2:55 of Adam Staudt, Charles City, Sr. in the class 2A championship match at 138 pounds.

Brandon Sorensen, Denver-Tripoli, Sr., was 23rd wrestler to win four state titles with a 7-3 decision over Zach Muller, West Delaware, Sr., in the class 2A championship match at 145 pounds.

Dylan Windield, a junior from Alburnett, pinned his way through the tournament. It was capped with a pin at 6:13 of Jake Haberman, a senior from Clarion, in the class 1A state title match at 160 pounds.

The 2013 state wrestling tournament comes to a close on Saturday.

Iowa City had numerous wrestlers from local high schools qualify for the tournament, and five wrestlers earn a place at the podium at their weight class on Saturday.

Daniel Gaffey, Regina, Sr., wrestles for first place in the Class 1A 220 pound weight class later today against Ryley Howell, a junior from Wapello. Gaffey can finish no worse than second place.
