Arrests Made In Downtown Iowa City Shooting

An adult male was taken to an area hospital with what is believed to be a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the abdomen.

As a result of the investigation into the Dec. 5 shooting at the Old Capitol Town Centre Parking Ramp, Darnell F. Martin, Jr., 21, of Coralville; and Mason D. Ward, 18, of Cedar Rapids have been arrested and face the following charges.

Reckless use of a firearm causing property damage (Ward)

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and additional charges are pending. A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

At approximately 1:25 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, Iowa City police responded to the Old Capitol Parking Ramp, 220 S. Capitol St., for a report of shots fired.

Responding officers found evidence at the scene indicating multiple shots were fired and the preliminary investigation shows several people may have been involved. An adult male was taken to an area hospital with what is believed to be a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the abdomen.
