From the bureaucratic irony department, the Iowa State Auditor is going to review the use of federal funds by Secretary of State Matt Schultz to see if he improperly used the money in his investigation of possible illegal voter fraud. (Des Moines Register)

Courtney contends Schultz has improperly used federal money from the Help America Vote Act which is intended to help educate Iowans about voting procedures, voting rights and voting technology. The Secretary of Stateโ€™s office saysย theย federal money can be used for other purposes as well. Courtney claims Schultz is using the federal money on a โ€œvoter fraud goose chase.โ€

Chief Deputy Jenkins said Friday the state auditorโ€™s office will report its findings to Schultzโ€™s office and to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission.

โ€œSince it is federal funds that are allegedly being used, the commission will make the final decision if they ever get a quorum,โ€ Jenkins said.
