Fire Department: Firefighters Save Pet from Hickory Trail House Fire that Resulted in $15,000 in Damages
Fire investigators have identified "careless disposal of smoking materials" as the accidental cause of the fire.

No one was injured in a fire this morning at 2713 Hickory Trail.
And that includes the pet that was rescued by Iowa City Firefighters.
According to an Iowa City Fire Department press release, firefighters responded Tuesday morning to a structure fire at 8:15 a.m. at the above address.Â
The fire department responded with four engines, a quint, and a battalion chief, according to the release. The first in unit on the scene observed smoke coming from the rear of a two story, wood frame residence.
Firefighters entered the structure. The first crew in the structure found the main body of fire on the wood deck and siding, and fire crews then initiated "an aggressive fire attack with suppression within ten minutes of arrival."Â

During this process firefighters were also able to conduct a search of the entire structure and rescued one pet from inside, according to the release.
16 firefighters were on the scene to assist with putting out the fire. These firefighters were assisted on the scene by the Iowa City Police Department, the Johnson County Ambulance Service, and Mid-American Energy. No injuries were reported and damage to the structure is estimated to be $15,000.Â
