Flash Flooding Leads to Disaster Declaration in Johnson County

Flash flooding is causing problems all over the county as the rain keeps tumbling down.

Johnson Co. Issues Disaster Declaration Following Flash Flooding

Johnson County Emergency Management Coordinator Dave Wilson told KCRG.com that his office issued a county emergency disaster declaration. The order allows county resources to be used by communities in Johnson County. Wilson said that they are especially concerned about the situation in Solon and it's waste water treatment plant. The plant is near a creek and additional heavy rain is expected.

In Coralville and Iowa City, several roads were closed due flash flooding. Roads were reopened Wednesday afternoon. Minor street flooding North Dubuque Street in North Liberty. 

On Wednesday night there was a Code Red call to Solon residents asking that they limit the use of water until noon on Thursday, including the flushing of toilets.

A flash flood warning was in effect in Johnson County and Iowa City until 4:30 a.m. as another major storm system moved through the area.

FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS have been issued for much of eastern Iowa. The warnings expire at 4:30am Thursday for the Corridor and at 7:15am for Washington and areas to the south. More heavy rain is possible overnight with an additional 1 to 2 inches expected by Thursday morning.
