Iowa City Downtown District Welcomes New Board Leadership

Media Release

After a successful year of advocacy and project implementation, the Iowa City Downtown District (ICDD) voted in a new slate of Executive Committee officers at the June 26th, 2013 Board Meeting to guide the organization over it's second fiscal year.

Bill Nusser, owner of Hands Jewlers and long-time downtown advocate, will fulfill the role of Board President. George Etre, owner of Formosa and Takanami restaurants, was voted in as the Vice President and will also be a new addition to the Executive Committee.  Former President Karen Kubby, owner of Beadology, will remain on the Executive Committee as Past President and will replace Catherine Champion, owner of Catherine's and Cheap and Chic, in that role. The full slate of Executive Committee officers, below, will fulfill a one-year term from July 2013 to June 2014.

  • President - Bill Nusser
  • Vice President - George Etre
  • Treasurer - Kent Jehle
  • Secretary - Patty McCarthy
  • Past President - Karen Kubby

"Karen Kubby has set the bar high for leadership of the Downtown District, but I have no doubt that Bill Nusser as President will take this role and really run with it.  He has been an important voice for creating change Downtown for years and has already been instrumental in several major beautification initiatives," said Nancy Bird, Executive Director.

The change in leadership also highlights a strong voice for new businesses with the addition of Etre to the Executive Committee.  "I am excited to play a stronger role in how and where to target investments Downtown.  My experience owning and managing several businesses here over the years will hopefully help inform decisions related to building a stronger business climate.
