Iowa City Road Construction: Washington Street, Rochester/First Avenue Closures Starting Today
Some road work to watch out for (weather permitting) this week, plus a list of ongoing projects.
City governments always have the caveat of "weather permitting" whenever they announce what road work is going to happen when.
Well we'll see what the weather permits this week with some potential rainy weather on the way, but here is what is scheduled as of now.
Rochester and North First Avenues

Effective immediately; the left turn lane for eastbound Rochester Ave. traffic turning north onto N First Ave., will be closed. This turn lane closure is necessary to facilitate emergency pavement replacement due to pavement failure. Weather permitting; it is anticipated the work will be completed by the morning ofThursday, May 30th.

Weather permitting, beginning on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 various lane reductions will occur along Rochester Avenue from First Avenue to Scott Boulevard, and along First Avenue from Rochester Avenue to Court Street. Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic and work will only occur between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. These lane reductions are necessary to facilitate the trimming of trees from MidAmerican Energy power lines. It anticipated that normal traffic will resume by the end of the day onFriday, May 31st.
Eastbound traffic on Washington Street will be closed to traffic from S. Dodge Street to S. Governor Street
Weather permitting, beginning on Thursday, May 30, 2013, eastbound traffic on Washington Street will be closed to traffic from S. Dodge Street to S. Governor Street. A detour route will be posted. This roadclosure is necessary to facilitate street repair work in the area. It is anticipated that Washington Street will reopen to normal traffic by early afternoon on May 31st.
