Media Release about this Year's Festival

Summer of the Arts invites you to come celebrate the 30thย anniversary of the Iowa Arts Festival, presented by Veridian Credit Union, on Friday, June 7thย through Sunday, June 9th!ย โ€œThe Iowa Arts Festival is one of the longest running festivals in the area and its success is due to the vision and dedication of the handful of individuals who decided, in 1983, to formally celebrate the start of summer with an arts festival,โ€ states Lisa Barnes, Summer of the Arts Executive Director.

The Iowa Arts Festival is the most anticipated visual arts event of the summer featuring over 125 local and regional fine artists displaying and selling their artwork. Celebrating the 30th anniversary in 2013, this award-winning festival is packed with activities including national and local musical performers on the main stage, a variety of entertainment on the family stage, a Childrenโ€™s Day featuring activities for young and young-at-heart, a Global Village on Sunday featuring booths representing different countries and cultures, our ever-popular Culinary Row, a Beverage Garden, artist demonstrations outside of downtown businesses and an Emerging Artist Pavilion.

Artists performing on the main stage include bands such as Grammy Award Nominee, Richard Thompson and the Electric Trio on Friday, The Beggarmen and Old 97โ€™s on Saturday, and Sam Knutson live on Sunday. Sample regional and ethnic food as youโ€™re strolling through the Art Fair, listening to live music, or enjoying the kidsโ€™ activities. Youโ€™ll find FUN Stops and a variety of other activities throughout the festival including a bouncy house outside of the Iowa City Public Library on the Pedestrian Mall, and a variety of other activities at the FUN Stops throughout the Art Fair. New this year, the Carnaval Parade will be taking place at 9:50 a.m. on Sunday, June 9thย before the Art Festival, which is a wonderful celebration of storytelling & an amazing display of visual arts, where each person who joins in the Carnaval parade will themselves, become works of art. ย

The Iowa Arts Festival takes place throughout the downtown streets in the heart of Iowa City.
