Iowa City Spying Opponents to Hold 'Restore the Fourth' Anti NSA Rally

The protest will be in solidarity with a nationwide effort called "Restore the Fourth."

Iowa City residents concerned about domestic spying aren't resting on their laurels after a recent win, pushing the city council into banning the potential use of drones for police surveillance work.

Aleksey Gurtovoy, one of the Iowa City residents who helped organize the petition drive against drones and red light traffic cameras, is spearheading the Iowa City involvement in a national "Restore the Fourth" protest against domestic NSA spying and the Patriot Act. The event is also being held in solidarity with the actions of Edward Snowden, the analyst who leaked the details of the NSA spying activities and remains on the run from US authorities.

Iowa City's rally is scheduled to be held from noon to 2:00 p.m. on the Pedestrian Mall on the Fourth of July. More on the rally below and in the attached PDF:

A group of Iowa City-area citizens will be celebrating the Independence Day by holding a rally to demand that the government of the United States adhere to its constitutionally dictated limits and respect the Fourth Amendment, and to show non-partisan support for NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden.

This event is a part of nationwide movement Restore the Fourth,
a gr
assroots, non-partisan, non-violent movement that is organizing nationwide anti-NSA spying protests on July 4th, 2013.

The movement has gained significant momentum in the last couple of weeks, with protesters in over 100 cities across America gathering to
demand an end to warrantless NSA surveillance.
