Andy Hamilton of the Des Moines Register reports that the NCAA is looking at merging the dual-meet and individual national competitions into a single National Championship event.

Another option on the table would be to relocate the current Iowa City location at 22 S. Van Buren St. to a different spot downtown in order to get out of the floodplain and provide a larger space.

Board member Ramji Balakrishnan emphasized that they would only close the current location in Iowa City if a new downtown spot became available. If they end up choosing a spot outside the downtown Iowa City area, the current location will remain open.

“We want to maintain a presence in downtown Iowa City either way,” he explained.

Founded in 1971, the Co-op also  has a second location in Coralville at 1101 2nd St.

Since announcing the “Third Location Project” in May, the board held four member meetings, one in Iowa City, North Liberty, Marion, and, most recently, Cedar Rapids.
