Police: Man Charged with Felony After Razor Blade Found in Hair During Jail Processing

An Iowa City man already facing charges for probation violation received an additional serious felony charged after police allegedly found a razor blade concealed in his hair.

According to an Iowa City Police Complaint, Xzavier Akem Mallard, 22, of Iowa City was taken into custody at 4:40 p.m. on Wednesday for a probation violation. After a search at the Johnson County Jail where he was warned not to bring contraband or weapons into the jail, jail officials allegedly discovered a Exacto razor blade during a search of his person.

The razor blade find led to Mallard being charged with an additional possession of contraband in a correctional facility charge, a Class C Felony. This was in addition to two Class D felonies he was already facing due to drug charges. Mallard is now being held in the jail on $27,500 bond.
