Police: Man Severely Beat Fiance After Hearing She Was Cheating on Him
The woman required hospitalization for her injuries after the assault.

An Iowa City man who had heard he had been cheated on by his fiance allegedly beat her severely enough that she needed to be transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC)Â for her injuries.
According to an Iowa City Police criminal complaint, at 2:47 a.m. Sunday morning  officers received a call to Sturgis Drive for the report of a man who had "hit a female to the ground." There they found that Orvin Dick Duarte Peralta, 28, of Iowa City had allegedly assaulted the woman after being told that she was sleeping with another man.
Peralta allegedly admitted to police that he had slapped the woman, ripped off her shirt, tore her bra, and punched her three times in the face, causing her to bleed heavily from her nose. The woman was taken to UIHC afterward for further evaluation.
Peralta and the woman had been in an intimate relationship and living together for about a year, according to the complaint. He was charged with domestic abuse without intent causing injury, a serious misdemeanor, and has been released from the Johnson County Jail.
