Report: West High Edges City High But Neither Crack Prestigious List of Top High Schools in Iowa, Nation
U.S. News and World Report released a list of the top high schools in the country.

City High and West High are both strong schools, but they both fall short of the elite high schools in Iowa, according to a new report released today.
Neither City nor West cracked the list, which recognizes the top 21 high schools in Iowa, as well as the top 2,000-plus in the nation.

Among the West High student body, 81 percent are proficient in math and 79 percent are proficient in reading. The school scored a 36.9 on a college readiness index. The report states that 22 percent of the student population are economically disadvantaged.

Among the City High student body, 80 percent are proficient in math and 81 percent are proficient in reading. While City High had similar proficiency scores, the school scored considerably lower on the college readiness index, with a 24.5. The report states that 31 percent of the student population are economically disadvantaged.

- Ankeny

- School for Talented and Gifted (Dallas)
- BASIS Tucson (Arizona)
- Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology (Lawrenceville, GA)
- Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (Alexandria, VA)
- BASIS Scottsdale (Arizona)
