On Feb. 25, the CDC released new guidelines for determining when and where people should wear masks, practice social distancing and avoid crowded indoor spaces. New guidelines no longer rely on only the number of cases to determine the need for restrictions. They direct counties to consider three measures to assess risk of the virus: new COVID-19 related hospital admissions over the previous week, percentage of hospital beds occupied by COVID-19 patients, and new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people over the previous week. CDC’s new COVID-19 Community Level tool classifies every county in the U.S. into low, medium, or high. Linn County is currently in the medium level.Â
