Iowa Walmart Crash: 3 Dead After Truck Slams Into Building

Two more people were injured after the pickup truck crashed into the building Thursday afternoon.

A pickup truck slammed into a Walmart on Thursday in Pella, Iowa, killing three people and injuring two others, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

The 911 call came at 9:54 a.m., Iowa State Patrol spokesman Sgt. Nathan Ludwig told reporters outside the Walmart. The truck plowed through the market and pharmacy section, near the front entrance of the store, Ludwig said.

The driver, an elderly man, was taken to a hospital with injuries but did not die, Ludwig said, and he was the only one in the car. Ludwig said the crash "does not appear to be an intentional act."

The victims were not children, Ludwig said, but their ages and names were not immediately released, pending next-of-kin notification.

The store was evacuated while emergency personnel were on the scene.
